How do I get Windows XP to automatically display, in every file list window, a detail view sorted alphabetically?

I know how to change the view in a File window, but I want to have it
changed automatically for all File windows.

Windows XP SP3

My computer used to display files and folders in any File window, as an
alphabetical list. For some reason it doesn't do this anymore. Now it
displays as a list in reverse chronological order (oldest first).

How do I set the system to AUTOMATICALLY display in ANY Open File/Save
File/Load File etc window (for ANY and ALL programs), a detail view (not
list) sorted alphabetically?

I tried doing this:

1. Right-click Start, click Explore and then click drive C.
2. On the View menu, click Details.
3. Click the Name column to sort items by name, press and hold down the
CTRL
key, and thenquit Windows Explorer by clicking Close in the upper-right
corner of the screen.
4. Release the CTRL key.
5. Restart your computer.

and it didn't help

Thanks for any help.

And for a bonus ten points, is there a way to sort icons, links or files by
frequency of usage/access? This would be useful for sorting icons in the
quicklaunch bar

Open Explorer then select "Folder Options". Open the "View" tab and click the
"Reset All Folders" button then close the "Folder Options" window. Now adjust
your window settings and just exit Explorer. Holding Ctrl then clicking the close
button doesn't work for that.

Some related software:

Use this VBScript to set your folder views:

Just follow its directions. If you want to master folder views too, just ask.
